What training sessions are included?

Airline Selection Training

In this training session, we have guest speakers from the airline selection training company, Flight Deck Wingman.  They provide some super valuable information about how you can optimise your performance, during a sim selection session.

This is a fascinating and very informative training session that was custom designed for us here at the Airline Pilot Mentor Programme, and is centred on the core competencies - definitely not one to miss!

Training Session

LPC, LST and OPC Demystified

Simulator assessments are a fundamental part of being an airline pilot, but it's no secret that no one likes being examined!  However, by understanding what the check day entails, we can reduce our stress levels as we enter the briefing - and open up the opportunity to maximise our performance.

In this training session, I'll be giving you a very unique insight into the examiners' mindset, and demystifying the check profile - showing you what items we need to cover in the pre-sim briefing, clarifying the flying accuracy limits that must be met, and what the examiner can and can't do during the check - plus much more.  By gaining this very unique insight, we can give ourselves the best opportunity to excel in our next check.

Training Session

How to Deal with a Weak Sim Partner

As professional pilots, we know how vital it is to approach simulator checks properly prepared, aiming to perform at our very best each time.

But, there’s one factor beyond our control - the preparedness and capability of the pilot sitting beside us in the flight deck.  When there’s a gap in skills or readiness between us and our sim partner, it can introduce unexpected challenges that, if not managed well, can impact both of us.

The good news?  Recognising these differences and knowing how to handle them, can transform a challenging situation into an opportunity to shine.

In this training session, I’ll be exploring real-world examples of what can happen when pilots with differing abilities are paired.

I’ll then be teaching you practical strategies, which will not only highlight your skills and abilities, but also elevate your sim partner’s performance - creating a positive and productive outcome for the both of you.

Training Session

Engine Fault Diagnosis

Modern jet engines are incredibly reliable, but when they do suffer malfunctions, they can present their symptoms in a wide variety of ways.

Understanding these symptoms is key to ensuring that we accomplish the correct procedures and checklists.

A misdiagnosed engine fault can create bigger problems for us down the line, and has been the cause of accidents and incidents in the past.

As a TRE, I do see crew misdiagnose engine faults, and it's something that can easily be avoided - when armed with the right knowledge.

In this training session, I’ll be showing you the various ways in which engine malfunctions can present themselves, how to correctly diagnose the fault, and avoid the common mistakes.

Training Session

CCO: Workload Management

Having spent thousands of hours training and examining crews in both the simulator and the aircraft, one thing is clear - Workload Management is the foundation upon which all other core competencies are built.  And as such, if we want to not only operate safely but also excel in what we do, it’s absolutely vital that we have practical, proven strategies that will enable us to manage our workload when the going gets tough.

In this training session, I’ll be teaching you the real-world, tangible techniques and strategies that you can immediately apply to your own operation - both on the line and in the sim - that will enable you to stay ahead of the aircraft, and perform at your best when it matters most.

Training Session

CCO: Situation Awareness

Situation Awareness is one of the cornerstones that the other eight core competencies are built around.

Having the skills which enable you to comprehend the world around you and project that into the future, is absolutely vital if we want to not only remain safe, but also excel in a career that is more competitive than ever.

In this training session, I’ll be providing you with time-proven, practical and easy-to-apply skills that will enable you to maintain and enhance your situation awareness, and share that high-level awareness with those around you.

Training Session

In this training session, I’ll be providing you with tried-and-tested practical techniques that can measurably enhance your decision-making competency - these are skills and behaviours that you can add to your operation, which only the top-performing pilots exhibit, and can help make sure you’re one of them!

Training Session

CCO: Decision Making - Part 2

In Part 1 of our Core Competency Optimisation: Decision Making training session, we focused on practical techniques to help you measurably improve your decision-making skills in normal operations.

Now it’s time to take things up a gear!

In this training session, we’ll be introducing new techniques to measurably enhance your non-normal decision making - where clarity, confidence, and structured thinking make all the difference.

You’ll discover time-proven strategies, used by high-performing crews, that you can immediately integrate into your own decision-making process.  These are tools designed to help you stay ahead, when it matters most.

This is a must-watch training session, before your next sim session!
